Sessions are structured to give clients the most individualized attention and maximized results possible. All fees are due at time of service.
Each appointment is allocated to give ample time for owner input, hands-on work with the horse, feedback to the owner, and detailed documentation for my files similar to that for medical care. Factoring in travel, I generally accept only 3 appointments per day.
The field of equine massage is unfamiliar territory for many (if not most) horse owners, and the initial visits of highly skilled equine therapy often entail much Q&A and owner education. If owners were charged directly for my time, intro sessions in particular would be cost-prohibitive for many, and highly deserving animals would be deprived of beneficial care. Accordingly, my intro rates are substantially discounted in proportion to time invested.
Free of charge. Brief phone consults are offered so that I may understand the client’s physical issues and the horse owner’s philosophical perspective, and for the horse owner to have time without commitment to determine the relevance of my methods to their situation.
Approximate duration: 30 minutes information gathering (includes review of health history—and gait analysis, if appropriate); 20–30 minutes hands-on evaluation (palpation/restorative applications); 30 minutes discussion of findings and therapeutic plan.
Note: Lengthy initial hands-on sessions are generally not recommended for horses. A limited initial session is designed both to gauge and establish the animal’s trust. Follow-up use of time and finances is more efficient when the horse initially learns that massage is comfortable, and the animal is allowed to gain confidence in the techniques and the practitioner. By using this approach, longer follow-up sessions are generally relaxed and rich with response & communication.
Approximate duration: 10–15 minutes pre-session information gathering (effects following last session, retention of mobility, etc.); 60–90 minutes bodywork; 10–15 minutes post-session feedback. Pre- and post-session feedback time can be done with owner via phone, and once the initial session is completed, the owner is not required to be on-site during follow-up sessions.
