My work is especially suited for the horse owner who is self-motivated, intellectually curious and spiritually aware. Restorative massage is suited for all breeds and any discipline or type, including dressage, hunter/jumper, racing, Western sport or pleasure. I specialize in rehabilitation and socialization of abuse/neglect cases. The animal’s personality is not a limiting factor, though it may necessitate adjustments in the sequence or timing of applications. As with my human clients, I carefully assess the horse’s initial attributes, and immediately begin building a relationship which respects the animal’s individuality—in particular, its vulnerabilities.
Please note: my ultimate client is the horse, not the owner. My priority is the horse’s well-being, not an owner’s competitive or resale goals. Owners focused on animal recovery without regard to the animal’s holistic well-being are not suitable for this type of massage, and will be referred out to appropriate practitioners.
VETERINARY INPUT
If your horse is experiencing marked or chronic abnormality in gait, mood or behavior, the best first response is to consult your veterinarian to rule out serious physical issues, such as fracture, systemic disease or hormonal malfunction. Even if clinical results are negative (i.e. normal), veterinary data (e.g. bloodwork or x-rays, if appropriate) can provide a valuable baseline for evaluation in the therapeutic process. Remember, therapeutic massage is not a substitute for veterinary care, rather one component in an overall health care program of mainstream care, ancillary techniques and educated, enlightened, responsible ownership.
